Union education minister launches 'Padhe Bharat' 100 Days Reading Campaign today

Education ministry’s ‘Padhe Bharat’ campaign will focus on students studying in classes between Balvatika and Class 8.

NEW DELHI: Union education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan launched the ‘Padhe Bharat’ 100 days reading campaign today, January 1, 2022. The Campaign will help students in enhancing their creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary and their ability to express both verbally and in writing. The campaign will focus on students studying in classes between Balvatika and Class 8.

“The nationwide #100DaysReadingCampaign starts today i.e. 1st January 2022. An initiative by EduMinOfIndia, it involves a host of activities to be undertaken over a period of 14 weeks for spreading the joy of reading among students from Balvatika to grade VIII. #PadheBharat,” the Ministry of Education said in a tweet.

“Reading books is a healthy habit and a wonderful way to develop cognitive, language, and social skills. Inspired by PM narendramodi’s call to citizens to read books regularly, I am committed to cultivate a lifetime habit of book reading. #PadheBharat,” Pradhan tweeted. The minister also shared the names of five books he is reading.

As part of the Padhe Bharat Campaign, the government has also shared guidelines on Reading Campaign with the states and Union Territories. The guidelines included a weekly calendar of activities divided on the basis of age. The activities have been created in a way that students can perform them with the help of resources available at home. Students can take help from family or peers in case the schools are closed, the guidelines said.

The reading campaign aims to have the participation of all including children, teachers, parents, community, educational administrators etc at the national and state-level.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has invited affiliated schools to participate in the 100-day reading campaign, ‘Padhe Bharat’. The reading campaign will be held for 14 weeks running from January 1 to April 10, 2022. The campaign seeks participation from children, teachers, parents, community and educational administrators.
