University of Delhi holds International Students Festival 2025

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi (DU) foreign students registry (FSR) held International Students Festival 2025 today, March 11. During the programme, students from different countries presented cultural programmes showcasing the culture of their respective countries.

The event was attended by Shashank, the former foreign secretary of the government of India, as the chief guest and was presided over by Yogesh Singh, the vice chancellor of DU. Additionally, the high commissioner of the Republic of Fiji, Jagannath Sami was the guest of honour of the programme.

While addressing the international students, the chief guest of the event said every student can work to develop their country’s partnership with India. He also said that Indian philosophy is different from Western philosophy.

“Our thinking is that the more you share your knowledge and wisdom with others, the more you will gain and others will gain too,” says former foreign secretary Shashank.

“The guest of honor of the programme Jagannath Sami said it is a matter of pride for me to come to the motherland of my ancestors,” the DU statement said. He says the roots of Fiji’s culture and history are connected with India.

“When Indian people went to Fiji, they took with them holy books like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Gita, Quran and Bible, which strengthened them mentally and religiously. They have maintained their identity through Ram Leela, Krishna Leela and bhajans, etc,” the DU statement said.

While addressing this occasion, DU VC Yogesh Singh said in his presidential address that international students studying in DU should also visit different states of India to understand our culture.

According to the DU statement, VC said 10% supernumerary seats have been allocated for international students in all courses, including diploma and degree, to PhD in DU. The university has provided quality education to thousands of foreign students.

“Referring to the strong presence of many DU alumni in their countries, he said that there are many personalities including the current president of Mauritius Gokul Dharma, current prime minister of Sri Lanka Harini Amarsuriya, Nobel Prize winner of Myanmar Aung San Suu and former prime minister of Nepal Girija Prasad Koirala who have brought glory to DU in the world,” the DU statement adds.

DU vice chancellor said that they are proud of their international alumni contributing to development and strengthening country relations.

DU's dean FSR Amarjiva Lochan said international students from around 45 countries are pursuing education in DU. Additionally, students from all the countries prepared cultural presentations of their countries for this programme.

"Buddhist monks presented prayers on this occasion. Artists from Tibet, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Venezuela, Thailand, and South Korea, etc, kept the audience engaged by giving captivating performances. During this, DU Culture Council Chairperson Anoop Lathar, ambassadors, counselors, and representatives of several countries, along with many teachers and many students were present," the DU statement added.
