NEW DELHI: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has started the Civil Service Examination -Preliminary (UPSC CSE prelims 2024) application process to fill approximately 1,056, which includes 40 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD). This year, the commission has asked to follow new guidelines while uploading photograph on the UPSC CSE form 2024.

The UPSC CSE prelims registration link will be active till March 5 up to 6 pm. Interested and eligible candidates will have to first register at One Time Registration (OTR) platform and then proceed to fill the form on the official website, upsconline.nic.in. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 26.

UPSC OTR registration should be done only once in a lifetime. Already registered candidates can use the same registration number and password to login. Applicants who wish to edit the application should note that the commission will allow corrections for seven days after the registration closes ie. from March 6 to 12.

Candidates belonging to general category will get six attempts to clear the toughest exam. OBC, PwBD candidates will get 9 chances to appear and SC, ST will be allowed to sit for the exam any number of times.

The commission clarified that a candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) based on earlier exam results and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to appear in UPSC CSE prelims exam 2024.

UPSC 2024: Format for uploading photograph

The UPSC has announced new instructions for uploading photograph during the one-time registration process.

  • Candidates should not upload a photograph more than 10 days old from the online application process start date.
  • Name and date on which the photo was taken should be mentioned on the photograph.
  • The 3/4th space of the image should have the candidate’s face.
  • Appearance of the applicant should match the photograph uploaded at each stage of the exam. For example, if a candidate uploads a bearded photograph, he should appear with the same look in the UPSC IAS Prelims, Mains exam and in the interview round. The same rules will be applicable for candidates wearing spectacles and having moustaches.
