Uttar Pradesh changes school timings for Classes 1 to 8 due to heatwave

NEW DELHI: Schools in Prayagraj Uttar Pradesh will carry out their academic functions for the students of Classes 1 to 8 with changed timings. The schools will now function from 7 am to 12 noon. The decision to revise the school timings is in view of the heatwave conditions.

The maximum temperature in Lucknow touched 42 degrees Celsius mark today. Above 40 degrees Celsius temperatures today were recorded in Agra (42°C), Aligarh (41°C), Bareilly (42°C), Etawah (42°C), Farrukhabad-Cum-Fatehgarh (41°C), Firozabad (41°C), Ghaziabad (41°C), Gorakhpur (41°C), Hapur (42°C), Jhansi (41°C), Kanpur (42°C), Loni (41°C), Mathura (42°C), Maunath Bhanjan (42°C), Meerut (42°C), Moradabad (42°C), Muzaffarnagar (41°C), Noida (41°C) and Rampur (42°C).

Meanwhile, Tripura and West Bengal have ordered closure of educational institutions in the states considering the rise in temperature.

Announcing the closure of all state-run and state-aided schools till April 23, the scorching heat may adversely impact the health of the students, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said in a Facebook post. He also appealed to the private schools in the state to do the same in view of the prevailing weather condition.

Schools and colleges in West Bengal have been ordered to shut down till April 22 in view of the severe heatwave conditions in the state. The summer vacation in West Bengal government-run and aided schools have also been bright forward. The summer vacation will begin on May 2 instead of the earlier schedule of May 24 in the wake of sweltering heat across the state.
