135 more Atal schools to come up in second phase, says Uttarakhand education minister

On the possibility of a spike in Covid-19 cases, he said that if there is any indication of increase in number of cases after Diwali, the department will issue new Covid-19 guidelines.
NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand education minister Arvind Pandey on Monday announced that another 135 Atal Utkrisht Schools will come up in the second phase, the Times of India reported.
According to the report, the minister said, “We are currently using the services of guest teachers and are yet to make permanent appointments in the present 189 Atal schools.” There are a total of 3,300 guest teachers and the minister informed that he has ordered the education secretary to appoint 1,200 more teachers in the 189 Atal schools, the report added.

Speaking about the possibility of a spike in Covid-19 cases, he said that if there is any indication of increase in number of coronavirus cases after Diwali, the department will make amendments in Covid-19 guidelines and announce its decision accordingly.
In August, the education department had said that all vacant posts in the Atal Utkrisht Schools will be filled soon amid protest by teachers who were unhappy with the selection process in the Atal Utkrisht Schools.

According to a media report, the minister said that the 135 Atal Utkrisht Vidyalayas which conform to the norms of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would be converted to Atal schools in the second phase. The AUVs are English medium schools having the affiliation of CBSE, the reports added.
