16 Punjab Engineering College students placed in Microsoft with Rs 46 LPA package: Report

NEW DELHI: The Punjab Engineering College is conducting its placements 2021 and 16 final-year engineering students have bagged placements in Microsoft with 44 lakh per annum salary package each, the Hindustan Times reported.

The students are from BTech Computer Science and Electronics and Communication, the report said.

While in 2019, five students received a salary package of Rs 42 LPA from Microsoft, eight students got the same in 2020, as per the report.

Around 450 students have received job offers till now and the placement drive will go on till March 2022, the report said.

The college told the Hindustan Times that there are around 650 students in the final-year many of whom will skip the placement drive and pursue higher studies.

While most of the placement drive has been conducted virtually, the college has requested some organisation to conduct physical placements as well, the report said.

PEC director Baldev Setia told the Hindustan Times that the internship programme saw an increase of 13% in internship placements with 314 offers.

“These internships resulted in 132 pre-placement offers, which is a phenomenal rise of 32% as compared to the previous year. Many students from different departments are also accepted for research internships in foreign universities,” Setia was quoted as saying.

JD Sharma, head, career development and guidance centre, PEC told Hindustan Times, “The placement numbers at PEC drive their strength from the talent pool of its student, its highly motivated faculty and its outcome-based curriculum.”

He added that COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in more offers from consulting, analytics and finance companies, as per the report.
