NEW DELHI : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued show-cause notices to 34 affiliated schools for participating in sports events organized by a body named CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO) despite warnings. The board clarified that the Agra-based organisation is not a part of CBSE and schools were asked not to associate with it in any manner.
CBSE has directed the schools to respond within a month, after which the board will initiate further action in view of non-compliance of affiliation bye-laws .
In July this year, CBSE informed schools that it has joined hands with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), and winners of CBSE national games can participate in the SGFI National School Games held every year, starting from the 2024-25 academic session.
At the very same time, the board alerted heads of schools that CBSE-WSO is using the name of CBSE to conduct sports competitions, and to exercise caution while participating in events orchestrated by the SGFI and other sports bodies.

“The board has cautioned schools who are unknowingly participating in the sports events being organized by the 'CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO), Agra (UP) which is having no connection in any manner with CBSE. All the schools were advised therein not to associate with the said organization in any manner and not to participate in the sports competitions by this organization since neither the said organization is a part of CBSE, nor the CBSE has any connection with this organization,” the central board iterated.

“All the schools were specifically instructed through the said circular to not to participate in any sports event organized by the said organization 'CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society' (CBSE-WSO), otherwise appropriate action shall be taken against the school as per norms and procedure of the board,” the show-cause notice read.
