4,297 reserved seats for teachers lie vacant in central universities: Education Ministry
About 988 reserved seats for ST, 576 for SC, 1,761 for OBC, 628 for EWS, and 344 for PwD categories lie vacant in central universities across India.
NEW DELHI: As many as 4,297 seats are lying vacant in the Indian central educational institutions for reserved teaching positions after conducting the recruitment process and declaring none-found-suitable list, the Rajya Sabha was informed by the Union education ministry today in a written reply. These seats are vacant for the reserved posts of professor, associate professor and assistant professor. About 988 reserved seats are vacant for Scheduled Tribes (ST) community, 576 for Scheduled Caste (SC), 1,761 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 628 for Economically Weaker Session (EWS), and 344 for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category in central universities across India.
The education ministry also shared the details of the posts for which the recruitment process was conducted and declared none found suitable.
The questions related to the vacant seats and the measures taken by the ministry to tackle this problem were put forward by MP AA Rahim. The Rajya Sabha was further informed that the education ministry has directed central higher educational institutions to fill up the vacancies within one year starting from September 5, 2021. According to the ministry, since August 2021, 4,807 posts have been advertised. The selection process for the same is going on, it said. The education ministry also informed that 375 posts have already been recruited.
The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Act, 2019 provides for the reservation in direct recruitment of teachers in central educational institutions across India. As per the act, no reserved post is to be de-reserved.
