AHMEDABAD: Several private schools and the mayor's office in Ahmedabad received bomb threat emails on Tuesday, prompting security checks at several locations before authorities declared them a hoax, officials said. The emails, sent in the morning to institutions, including Anand Niketan, Narayan Guru School in Satellite, Mount Carmel High School, and St. Kabir School in Navrangpura, claimed explosive devices would be detonated on these premises by the afternoon, they said.
The sender, claiming to be associated with the "Khalistan National Army", also threatened blasts at the Narendra Modi Stadium during singer Diljit Dosanjh's concert on November 21, according to a screenshot of the email. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Shivam Verma said, "Teams from the police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the dog squad conducted a thorough search.
However, nothing suspicious was found." Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot's office also received a bomb threat email on Tuesday afternoon. "A bomb threat email targeting the mayor's office was sent to an advocate's email ID," inspector PH Bhati of the Karanj police station said, adding that the premises were thoroughly combed and the complex was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Bharatkumar Rathod said, "The mail was a hoax and nothing suspicious was found during the security checks at the office."
