AICTE announces supernumerary seats for gifted students, Covid orphans in technical institutions
These students will be eligible for a SWANATH scholarship which provides financial incentives of Rs 50,000 per year to 2000 students every year.

NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education's (AICTE) has announced that all recognized institutions will offer two supernumerary seats to “gifted and talented” students and to students who lost their parents to the COVID-19 pandemic. These seats will be offered to students with exceptional talent as per AICTE norms.
According to AICTE, students who lost their parents to the COVID-19 pandemic will also be eligible for admission to polytechnic institutions under a supernumerary quota. Each polytechnic institution will have two supernumerary seats per course. Students are required to furnish a “PM cares certificate” issued under the PM CARES for children scheme so as to get admission. These students will be eligible for a SWANATH scholarship which provides financial incentives of Rs 50,000 per year to 2000 students every year.

Students who are orphans, wards of parents who died due to COVID, wards of armed forces, and central paramilitary forces martyred in action can get the benefit of the SWANATH scholarship scheme.

AICTE has recently extended its moratorium for setting up new engineering colleges for two years and has also given certain exceptions in the extension.
