NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has extended the deadline for submission of proposals to set up centres of excellence in cybersecurity in engineering colleges across the country. The deadline has been extended till May 14 due to ongoing lockdown in the country.

In March, the AICTE invited proposals from Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) to submit expressions of interest, or EOIs, for the establishment of the proposed centres in select engineering colleges in the country.

The original announcement had said: “In view of the growing cybersecurity threat and scarcity of skilled professionals to deal with the menace, the centre has decided to set up centres of excellence in cybersecurity in engineering colleges across the country.”

In the first phase, AICTE plans to establish centres of excellence (COEs) in cybersecurity in 10 engineering colleges. The project will be partially funded by the World Bank under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The COEs shall consist of software and hardware components and the cost of the establishment shall be borne equally by TEQIP and industry facilitated by implementing CPSE agency.
