NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) said that false information regarding the Prime Minister's Free Laptop Scheme for students has been circulating. Several reports surfaced recently claiming the initiation of such a scheme wherein students were asked to apply for the scheme through AICTE website. The commission clarified that no such scheme has been launched.
“The AICTE categorically denies the existence of any such scheme. There is no official announcement or implementation of a Prime Minister's Free Laptop Scheme for Students. Any information stating otherwise is entirely fictitious and misleading,” said a senior officer of AICTE. “It has come to our attention that certain news websites and social media platforms are irresponsibly propagating this false information,” the officer added.
As per the AICTE official, the dissemination of such baseless claims not only misleads students but also undermines the credibility of authentic government initiatives. It can also lead to some online fraud and our students can be cheated by cyber criminals.
The commission urged students and the public to exercise caution and verify information from reliable sources before believing or sharing it. Furthermore, it cautioned news websites and media outlets against publishing or promoting unverified news, as it can have detrimental effects on society's trust in media.
“The AICTE remains committed to promoting transparency and integrity in all its endeavors. We urge everyone to rely only on official announcements from authorized channels for accurate information regarding government schemes and initiatives. For any clarification or inquiries, please contact the AICTE Public Relations Department. All the schemes related to students and the faculty members of AICTE approved institutions are available on Councils website. Students can also take information from Council’s landline numbers,” said AICTE in an official statement.
