AIIMS and JIPMER to admit students based on NEET scores from 2020

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER, 04: All medical aspirants have to appear in a common entrance exam, NEET from the year 2020. The common exam will apply to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education (JIPMER) as well.
" The NEET and common counselling will apply to all medical colleges including AIIMS and JIPMER so there will be only one common exam," said a Health Ministry official while briefing the press on the National Medical Commission Act 2019 on October 4. Union Minister for Health Harsh Vardhan was also present on the occasion.
Over 3.38 lakh medical aspirants wrote the AIIMS entrance test on May 2019 and 1.84 lakh appeared for JIPMER.
At the end of the MBBS programma, there will be the National Exit exam (NEXT). Admission to a postgraduate program will be based on the results of NEXT and he/she need not appear in any other screening exams.
The official further said: “Another exam was there called the Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) Test. That too will get merged with 'NEXT'."
The National Medical Commission replaced the Medical Commission of India as the regulator for medical education in August.
