Aim to achieve 100% gross enrollment ratio in Class 10: Pokhriyal

Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ also said that the current gross enrollment ratio for higher secondary is at 53 percent.
NEW DELHI : The minister of education Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that the government’s aim is to achieve 100% gross enrollment ratio and zero dropouts in Class 10. Pokhriyal also said that the current gross enrollment ratio for higher secondary is at 53 percent.
Pokhriyal said that the education ministry is preparing a further “plan of action” to give “due importance” to higher secondary education. The minister was attending a meeting on the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan with officials from the Department of School Education and Literacy.
In Budget 2021 , the central government cut more than Rs 5,000 from the education budget rendering it the lowest in two years. A major chunk of the funds, more than Rs 10,000 crore, were also cut from the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan , the country’s largest education scheme.

Pokhriyal, through his official social media handle, said: “Chaired a meeting on Samagra Shiksha with Department of School Education and Literacy officials. Further plan of action is to prepare a blueprint to ensure high school education is given due importance. “
“Current gross enrollment ratio (GER) in higher secondary education is a t 53% and we aim to achieve 100% GER in class 10 & zero dropout,” he said.
