Allahabad University removes chief proctor; to suspend, file FIR against students involved in disturbance

Allahabad University Protest: UoA has identified students who blocked the Senate entrance including ex-students and formed a panel to look into the issue.
NEW DELHI: Allahabad University announced professor KN Uttam as the officiating proctor who has replaced former chief proctor Rakesh Singh. The university also informed that a legal committee has been constituted to investigate the issue of illegal inmates in hostels and issues pertaining to Abhishek Gupta .
Meanwhile, Allahabad University said that it has identified some of the students involved in the disturbance and will lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against them besides expelling the students.
The university issued a notice appealing to students to not get misled by unruly elements and focus on their studies. Strict disciplinary action will be taken if found involved in any kind of indiscipline, it said.
According to the UoA, the students who were among the miscreants who blocked the entry gates of the Senate complex during the ongoing movement to get justice for Abhishek Gupta, a student of Sir Sunder Lal Hostel in Allahabad University, are being identified. Many of these have also been marked. Along with registering an FIR against them, they will be expelled from the university.
Some students involved in the disturbance have also been identified from the constituent colleges while some former students have been found to be involved. After filing the FIR against all of them, the degree awarded to them will be taken back, informed the university via social media.
The university said that out of the students who have been involved, most of them are from the SSL hostel. At the same time, students of GN Jha, PCB, Holland Hall and KPUC hostels have also been identified.
On the other hand, the protest by students continued in front of the library gate of the university.

“The Committee will submit its report in one month following due procedure. Until the committee submits its report, head of physics department, KN Uttam will function as an officiating proctor,” an official notice read.
The legal committee will be headed by hod of the botany department, Sheo Mohan Prasad, and other members including the head of the biochemistry department, Rizvi; Adesh Kumar LLB coordinator; Chanda Devi, department of Hindi; Priyamvada Singh, department of earth and plan; assistant registrar Sunil Kumar Yadav.
