Rahul Gandhi gets go-ahead for 'Chhatron ki Goonj' event amid Allahabad university students' protest

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received administrative clearance to hold his 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme in Prayagraj tomorrow, on August 8. The decision comes a day after alleging that the administration was trying to prevent his visit amid ongoing Allahabad University students' protest over fee hikes and seat cuts.

ANI reports that cancellation of booking for venue, KP College's sports ground, has been revoked and Gandhi can go ahead with public interaction programme.

Gandhi accuses administration

Before this, Rahul Gandhi accused administration of attempting to stop his proposed ' Chhatroh Ki Goonj ' programme. In a post on X (originally in Hindi), he said, "Students of Allahabad University were protesting against fee hikes and seat cuts, but instead of addressing their concerns, the administration was registering FIRs against them."

"The policy of the Modi government is to suppress the voice of the youth. Ask a question and you get a lathi charge, protest and you face cases, and raise your voice and you get pellet guns," he added.

He further alleged that the administration had been making "every possible effort" to stop his visit to Prayagraj ever since he decided to meet the protesting students. "It is clear that they are even afraid of the students' echo," Gandhi wrote, adding that he would continue to stand with the students and raise their concerns regardless of the obstacles.

Allahabad University students are protesting over alleged fee hikes and seat cuts. The proposed 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme will focus on students' grievances. It aims to provide a platform for interaction with the Leader of Opposition.
