Dr B R Ambedkar university has cited alleged indiscipline, vandalism and misbehaviour with staff while suspending students.
Dr B R Ambedkar University Delhi has suspended 10 students for their alleged involvement in acts of indiscipline, damage to university property and a scuffle with security personnel and administrative officials during a protest at its Kashmere Gate campus, the administration said on Wednesday. In a statement, the university said the action was taken after reviewing a preliminary report of the Proctorial Board, CCTV footage and other visual inputs related to the incident on the evening of October 13.
Concerns over campus safety and security
The suspended students have been barred from entering the university campuses during the suspension period, while the matter has been referred to the Proctorial Board or Disciplinary Committee for a detailed inquiry, it said. According to the university, a group of students was holding a sit-in protest at an unauthorised location on the campus without prior permission. The administration alleged that around 7 pm on Tuesday, the protesters damaged university property and engaged in physical altercations with male and female security personnel deployed on duty.

The university further alleged that officials attempting to initiate dialogue with the protesters were subjected to abusive behaviour. The administration subsequently informed the police, citing concerns over campus safety and security. It maintained that all legitimate and permissible demands raised by the protesting students had already been addressed and resolved. The university said acts of violence, vandalism, misbehaviour with staff and disruption of the academic environment were unacceptable, while reiterating its commitment to ensuring a fair inquiry in accordance with university rules and statutes.
