AMU among top 10 Indian universities in Shanghai Rankings

This is the first time that Aligarh Mustlim University (AMU) has been included in the top ten list of Shanghai Rankings.
NEW DELHI : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been included in the ‘Academic Ranking of World Universities’, better known as Shanghai Rankings, top ten list of Indian universities, a statement released by AMU said.
This is the first time that AMU is included in the top ten list of Shanghai Rankings. It is the eighth highest ranking institution in India in the rankings.
Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore is the highest ranked university in India followed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, University of Calcutta, Delhi University, and IIT Delhi in the top five rankings.

IIT Kharagpur, Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU), AMU and VIT Vellore are ranked from six to nine in that order. The All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is ranked 10th.
AMU Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor, in a statement shared through his social media account, said: “This is excellent news for the entire AMU fraternity particularly at a time when this historical institution is celebrating 100 years of its existence. This is a testament of AMU’s continuing progress on all fronts which is now being recognised at the national and international levels.”
Shanghai Rankings started in 2003 and ranks 1,000 top educational institutions in the world.
