On June 16, Chief Minister Himanta Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Final decisions regarding HSLC, High Madrassa and HS final year examinations will be taken on June 18 in a meeting between Edu Dept & various other stakeholders. It was recommended by the Cabinet not to allow the exams due to prevailing #COVID19 pandemic.”

The cabinet also decided to disallow home isolation for COVID-19 patients not having separate accommodation facilities at their residences.
Students have been continuously demanding to cancel Assam Board exams 2021 and to prepare the SEBA HSLC and HS results on the basis of alternative assessment criteria.

On June 14, a petition was also filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction to the government for the cancellation of Assam board HSLC and HS exams amid the pandemic.
On June 10, CM Sarma said that the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will conduct Class 10 and 12 examinations, if the COVID-19 situation improves.
