Assam Government to upgrade 3,000 high schools to senior secondary schools by 2022

NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that 3,000 high schools will be upgraded to senior secondary schools under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) by the year 2022.

Sarma made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for a government law college in Jorhat.

“Under #NEP2020 3K High Schools will be upgraded to Sr Sec Schools by 2022. We'll also increase number of Universities in Assam.Min ranojpeguassam, JogenMohanAssam; MPs ToponKumarGogo1 & KamakhyaTasa; MLA Renupoma Rajkhowa & Ex-MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi also joined,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a social media post.

Sarma also tweeted, “strengthening education infrastructure has been a top priority for Assam Govt.”

The state government has also decided to establish nine new law colleges at Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur, Rangia, Dhubri, Diphu, Silchar, Tezpur, Nalbari, and Nagaon, as per a PTI report. With the setting up of these new colleges, the government aims to provide quality education at an affordable price.

Moreover, earlier the Assam government had decided not to reopen schools while other states have reopened schools in phased manner for the higher classes from September 1.

However, today the Assam government took the decision to reopen schools for Class 10 from September 20 along with other major decisions in the Assam Cabinet.

“Classes for Class 10 students in high schools, high madrassas, residential schools day boarding schools (both government and private) to be reopened w.e.f September 20,” the official statement said.

The government has asked the authorities to ensure the vaccination of teachers and students for the reopening of schools for physical classes.
