Azim Premji Foundation to award Rs 30,000 annual scholarship for girls pursuing higher education

Azim Premji Scholarship 2025-26: The application process for the 2025-26 cycle will start in September 2025. Girls who have completed their Class 10, 12 from government schools are eligible to apply.

Azim Premji Foundation has announced the launch of the Azim Premji Scholarship to support girls pursuing higher education after school. The initiative aims to provide financial assistance to female students from government schools as they transition to degree or diploma programmes.

The Azim Premji scholarship will offer Rs 30,000 annually for the duration of the degree or diploma programme, provided the student maintains successful progress. For example, a student enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) nursing programme will receive Rs 1,20,000 over the course of her studies. The scholarship amount will be directly transferred to the recipients’ bank accounts in two instalments each year.

The application process for the 2025-26 cycle will begin in September 2025. The Foundation plans to award the Azim Premji scholarship to as many as 2.5 lakh girls during the 2025-26 academic year. According to the official press release, any details about the programme, including changes in its design or coverage, will be announced when the application process opens.

Azim Premji Scholarship 2025-26: Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicant should have completed their Class 10 and 12 schooling in government (public) schools and be admitted to a bona-fide higher education institution (HEI) in a degree or diploma programme. The list of bona-fide HEIs includes all government (public) institutions as well as selected private HEIs.

The Azim Premji scholarship programme will be implemented across 18 states in India including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Despite the all-around progress India has made, girls continue to confront differential societal and financial hurdles at all levels of education. We are making a significant commitment to support girls to pursue higher education, which will help them gain greater control over their life’s trajectory.”
