BHU receives Rs 10 lakh donation to institute scholarships
The scholarship will be given to one male and one female student of the MA in Hindi programme.
NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to institute two scholarships after Late Pandit Ganga Ratan Pandey and his wife Jagrani Pandey received a donation of Rs 10 lakh.
The donation has been given by Prakash Pandey and Arun Pandey, in honour of their parents under the Pratidana initiative of BHU.
Professor Ramesh Chand, advisor, alumni relations and university advancement, BHU, said the scholarships will be open for the students of MA Hindi on merit-cum-means basis. The scholarship will be given to one male and one female student of the master's degree course, added Professor Chand.
Pratidana initiative was launched by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain in February 2022. The initiative aims to support scholarships for meritorious students, need-based financial aid, enhance learning opportunities, promote excellence in teaching and enable impactful research among others.
As per an official release of BHU, Ganga Ratan Pandey studied for his bachelor’s and PG degrees at the university. As a student of MA in Hindi in the year 1942, he had to go to jail for participating in the Quit India Movement. He was an illustrious writer and author and significantly contributed to Hindi literature.
