NEW DELHI: Bishwajit Kumar Singh, commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has taken over the additional charge of chairman, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
Singh is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer at joint secretary level. In 2015, he was transferred by the Central Government and posted as Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

Singh belongs to IFS batch 1989 from Jammu and Kashmir cadre.
Civil servants belonging to class ‘A’ services including Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), can be posted on central deputation for an overall period of five years during their service.
He relieves Chandra Bhushan Sharma, a faculty-member and educationist from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, IGNOU.
In view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, NIOS has been broadcasting its educational content on television through SwayamPrabha channel. This is to aid students in continuing their education remotely while they stay confined to their homes.
