NEW DELHI: BITS Pilani has launched a new business school. The BITS School of Management (BITSoM) will offer MBA degree programmes that will “go beyond management studies”, said Kumar Mangalam Birla, Vice-Chancellor, at the virtual launch of the school. The programme will combine traditional training in running businesses with focus on “new-age” elements such as emerging technology, design thinking and data analytics.
“The accelerating trends of digitization, sustainability, and deglobalization are reshaping the world in more ways than one can imagine. In a world marked by uncertainty, it is time to introduce a new way of thinking and prepare young leaders for this age of disruption,” said Birla.
To be set up in Mumbai, more than Rs 1,500 crore has been invested in the school. The school will offer a two-year residential degree programme. The fee will be 24 lakhs for the programme.
Addressing the press, Birla said that globally renowned professors from top B-Schools such as New York University Stern School of Business, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Singapore Management University and Kellogg School of Management have been identified to teach.
“We are starting with a batch of 120. For admission, we are looking at not only academic credentials but also at qualifications beyond academia,” said Rahul Banerjee who stepped down as the dean of S P Jain Institute of Management and Research and will be the new dean of BITSoM.
The two-year MBA program will also incorporate relevant future-focused courses on emerging technology, design thinking and data analytics.
The upcoming campus of BITSoM is being developed across 60 acres at Kalyan in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Temporarily, BITSoM will operate from a campus in Powai, Mumbai.
