Candidates eligible for admission to PhD programme in the department of electronic science, CU, will have to deposit the application at HoD’s office.

NEW DELHI: The Calcutta University has started the registration process for the Research Eligibility Test (CU RET 2023) for admission to the PhD programme in the department of electronic science through offline application.
Eligible candidates can apply for the Calcutta University RET 2023 through a duly filled online form, along with the receipt of deposition of application fee of Rs 100, at the office of head of department of electronic science. The fee can be deposited in any cash counter of the University of Calcutta by challan or through onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm. They will also have to deposit self-certified copies of relevant mark sheets and certificates at the HoD’s office.
The university will accept the application till December 12. The Calcutta University RET written exam will be held on December 22. Candidates shortlisted for the interview will be announced on December 29. The interview will be conducted on January 4, 2024.
The written test will have a maximum of 150 marks. Candidates will have to attempt multiple choice questions in one hour. Candidates of unreserved category will have to get 50% marks while those from OBC category and SC, ST categories will have to get 45% and 35% marks, respectively, to qualify the exam.
Candidates applying for the CU RET 2023 should have MSc degree in electronic science or physics with at least 55% marks in aggregate. Students with Masters in Engineering or Technology (electronics and communication engineering) or equivalent degree should have 60% marks in aggregate for applying for the RET 2023. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will be given a relaxation of 5% marks.

The eligible candidates will have to appear at a written examination to be held in the Department of Electronic Science, the details of which are appended below, following which the selected students have to appear for an interview. The final selection for enrolling in the PhD (Science) programme of the department of electronic science, along with the allocation of supervisor, will be made on the basis of the interview.
Candidates who have already qualified UGC-CSIR (JRF) or NET or GATE or SLET or SET or MPhil-MTech/ME or equivalent examinations or have INSPIRE/Teacher Fellowship, are exempted from appearing for the written test and may directly appear at the interview. At the time of interview, the candidates will have to submit a one-page research proposal.
