The revised rules also outline attendance-based marks, internal assessment weightage and grade points for scores ranging from 30 percent to 100 percent
The University of Calcutta (CU) has revised its Admission and Examination Regulations for four-year undergraduate programmes under the Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF), 2022, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The courses include Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA),
According to a notification issued by Calcutta University on October 9, 2026, the changes include marks distribution, continuous assessment, attendance-based marks, passing criteria and grade point calculations. The revised provisions will be effective from the odd semester examinations in 2026.
The changes in marks distribution for regular and backlog students in all semesters will apply from the 2026 to 27 academic year. But the revised grade point calculation system will apply only to students who have taken new admission to semester one and not to backlog candidates.

Calcutta University revised UG marks distribution, attendance criteria
As decided by the concerned Undergraduate Board of Studies (UGBOS), under the revised scheme, regular Major, Minor and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) papers with a 75-mark theory component will get a weightage of 50 marks for the semester-end examination and 25 marks for continuous assessment. The continuous assessment will carry 20 marks for internal assessment and five marks for attendance.
Students with 90% to 100% attendance will get five marks, while those with 80% to less than 90% will get four marks. Attendance between 75% and less than 80% will carry three marks, and 60% to less than 75% will carry two marks. Students with attendance below 60% will get no attendance marks. The practical or tutorial component will carry 25 marks.
For theory papers carrying 100 marks in the seventh and eighth semesters, 75 marks will be for the semester-end exam and 25 for continuous assessment. For practical papers, 60 marks will be for the semester-end exam and 40 for continuous assessment.
For backlog candidates, the respective college will hold the 20-mark internal assessment. They will get marks based on their attendance when they were regular students in that semester.
Passing marks, grade point calculation
To earn credits in a paper, students must secure at least 30% of the total marks and at least 30% separately in the semester-end theory and practical or tutorial examinations, wherever applicable. Candidates can check the new Calcutta University UG grading system shared in the table below:
