NEW DELHI: Delhi's Class 12 pass percentage came down to 96.29 from 99.84 last year, but both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regions in the city are among the top five in the results announced Friday. The CBSE has divided the country into 16 regions with Delhi having two -- Delhi East and Delhi East.

In the results announced on Friday, Delhi East is ranked at the fourth position and Delhi West at the fifth. The pass percentage of both these regions was 96.29. The CBSE has not explained why they were placed at different positions despite having the same percentage. The national capital overall was behind Trivandrum (98.83 per cent), Bengaluru (98.16 per cent) and Chennai (97.79 per cent). Delhi's neighbouring Noida (90.27 per cent) was at the 14th spot in terms of pass percentage.

The results last year were declared on the basis of a special assessment scheme as exams could not be conducted due to the pandemic. The exams this year were conducted in two terms. Overall, Delhi's pass percentage in 2020 was 94.39, while it was 91.87 the year before, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said.
According to official data, out of a total of 2,98,395 students who took the exam this year, 2,87,326 have cleared it. This year, girls outshone boys in both Delhi East and Delhi West regions. In Delhi East, the pass percentage for girls stood at 97.06 while for boys it was 95.55 per cent. In Delhi West, the numbers were 96.73 per cent (girls) and 95.88 per cent (boys). Delhi East has a total of 4,175 students in the compartment exam category, while the west region has 2,658 students. Noida has 6,574 such students.

The board said that the compartment exams would be conducted from August 23 and will be held on the basis of syllabus of Term II exams. Overall, girls outperformed boys in class 12 CBSE exam even as the overall pass percentage dipped from last year's 99.37 per cent to 92.71 per cent, officials said on Friday.
