Check NowThe Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will start the Session 2 Class 10 board exams for the English paper today, May 16. According to the CBSE 10th exam timings, both English Communicative (Code 101) and English Language and Literature (Code 184) will be conducted in a single shift from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Students who are going to appear must carry a printout of the CBSE 10th admit card along with a valid ID proof to the exam hall.

The entry gates will close at 10 am, and students must report to the exam centre well before that to avoid last-minute glitches. CBSE introduced two board exams this year to provide students with an opportunity to improve their scores. It was compulsory to appear for the Session 1 exam, while students had the option to choose whether they wanted to appear for Session 2, even for just one subject. The best of the two scores will be considered while preparing the final marksheets.

CBSE 10th English Paper: Marking scheme
Below is the marking scheme for the CBSE Board Class 10 examination 2026 .
- English Language and Literature: The paper is divided into four sections, including Reading for 20 marks, Grammar for 10 marks, Writing Skills for 10 marks, and Literature Textbook questions carrying 40 marks.
- English Communicative: The paper includes Reading Skills for 22 marks, Writing Skills for 22 marks, and Section C (Grammar) carrying 10 marks.

CBSE Class 10 exam guidelines 2026
The Marking scheme carries only suggested value points for the answers or sample answers. The value points are in the nature of Guidelines only and do not constitute the complete answer. The students can have their own expression, and if the expression is correct, then due marks should be awarded accordingly.
If a student has attempted an extra question, the answer to the question deserving more marks should be retained, and the other answer should be scored out with a note “Extra Question”.
If more than one option is mentioned in the answer to multiple-choice questions, then no marks are awarded.
