NEW DELHI, AUGUST 23: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to change the exam pattern for classes 10 and 12 from the 2020 academic session. As per media reports, the overhaul includes changes in the exam schedule for both vocational and main subjects. There is also a plan to hold vocational subjects in February, which is a month earlier.

The revamp is an attempt to limit rote learning among students and test them on the basis of their analytical skills. the questions are expected to be short with allotted marks between 1 to 5 and will focus on the problem solving aspect, an HRD official has been quoted as saying to a news daily. The final exams could be expected to be over within March, which implies that the results could be declared earlier.

The new CBSE bylaws, as submitted by the Board to the ministry, puts thrust on the academic quality of the institutions. The respective education departments of each state would submit their reports on the infrastructure and working criteria of the schools, among other factors. The Board also plans to simplify the affiliation rules for schools.
