CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026: 'Chapter-wise weightage ignored,' allege students; seek grace marks

Students who appeared for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 supplementary examinations on July 28 have flooded social media, claiming questions were tougher than the main exams.Expressing concern over how poor results could affect their college admissions, many have appealed for grace marks and lenient evaluation. Around 1.63 lakh students appeared for the CBSE Class 12 board compartment exams conducted on July 28.

Referring to the board's earlier On-Screen Marking (OSM) controversy, students have urged CBSE to ensure fair evaluation of answer sheets. Introduced in board exams 2026, CBSE's digital evaluation process sparked widespread criticism after many students alleged discrepancies in marking and unexpectedly low scores. This triggered demands for greater transparency, and students called for verification of marks, photocopies of evaluated answer books and re-evaluation.

CBSE defended the introduction of the On-Screen Marking system, stating that digital evaluation was intended to improve accuracy, consistency and efficiency in the assessment process.

Grace marks demand resurfaces

For Class 12 supplementary results, students are worried that strict evaluation could further affect their academic future. Education content creator Anurag Tyagi also appealed to the board to consider students' concerns.

"Today, students have once again faced an exam, driven only by their determination to fulfil their dreams. Many have already seen their dreams shattered. Please, CBSE, do not let any more injustice happen. Don't stand in the way of their future—support them and help them," he wrote on X.

Several students shared similar concerns, saying their higher education plans depend on passing the supplementary examination. Taking to X, one candidate urged the board to "pass all students" by providing them grace marks. He also urged for lenient evaluation arguing that a single examination should not determine anyone's future.

A student alleged that the July 28 Accountancy paper was unexpectedly difficult and questioned the chapter-wise weightage, arguing that the board did not follow it this time.

Another student tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and CBSE, requesting intervention. The Class 12 student urged the authorities to introduce moderation of 15–20 marks in up to two subjects to help candidates clear compartment examinations and meet the 75 per cent eligibility criterion for college admissions.

The supplementary examinations are conducted for students who could not clear one or more subjects in the main board examinations. CBSE is expected to announce Class 12 supplementary result date soon.
