NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 15: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to ease its stipulated student to section ratio for the 2018-19 session. Schools affiliated to the board, who are registering students of class 9 and 11, can now register up to 45 students per section. Earlier, th board has restricted the number to 40.

While they are allowed to increase the number, Private schools approaching CBSE for registering more than 40 students have to pay a penalty to the board. Government schools are exempted from the penalty.

The last date to register for classes 9 and 11 is October 22. However, schools can register till November 28, provided they pay the late fee.

Schools facing issues in registering class 9 and 11 students have been asked to contact the CBSE regional offices. Those who have more students than the number entered into the Online Affiliated School Information System (OASIS) are facing issues. These schools also have to justify why they have more than the stipulated number while raising the issue with the Board.

"The Board has asked the schools to request the regional offices. But they have to give justification about the excess students for seeking permission for their registration. The online system will be opened for them and they can update (edit) the data in OASIS but that must be supported by evidence," a CBSE official has been quoted as saying to a national daily.
