Chandigarh University UP establishes Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare; to train 1.5 lakh youth

Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh (UP) has established a centre of excellence (CoE) in Smart Healthcare. As part of the initiative, the university has planned to train about 1.5 lakh youth over the next five years through artificial intelligence.

The initiative is in line with Uttar Pradesh’s push to bring AI into the healthcare system.

The university plans to introduce training and certification programmes for government officials to encourage the use of AI in administration. Students will also get opportunities to work on real-world problems through internships, hackathons and policy labs.

At the same time, the university also rolled out an AI ethics training programme in partnership with upGrad.

Chandigarh University UP to boost AI-driven healthcare research

The centre of excellence will focus on areas such as medical imaging, diagnostics, predictive analytics and precision medicine. This includes work on technologies used in X-rays, MRIs and CT scans, along with the use of large healthcare datasets to improve diagnosis and treatment.

The university said it will collaborate with hospitals to test and validate its research and also support at least five AI startups in the next two years. The centre is equipped with advanced computing systems to support high-level research.

Chandigarh University UP expands focus to AI in governance

Beyond healthcare, the university also hosted a national symposium on “AI in governance: policy, practice and people-centric transformation.” Experts from academia and industry discussed how AI can improve governance and public services.

The launch event was attended by minister of state (independent charge) for social welfare Aseem Arun, who appreciated the university’s efforts in promoting AI-led innovation. The centre will be headed by Dr Thipendra P. Singh, Professor of AI and pro vice chancellor at the university.

Speaking at the event, Amitabh Tewari from tata consultancy services said, “The emergence of Chandigarh University in Uttar Pradesh is a significant step towards building a strong education-led innovation ecosystem.”

Dr. Rahul K. Singh said, “The initiative by Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, to establish a centre of excellence for smart healthcare is truly commendable,” highlighting the importance of safe and ethical AI in healthcare.

Prof. Thipendra P. Singh added, “The establishment of the centre of excellence in smart healthcare at Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, reflects our commitment to leveraging technology to make healthcare services more accessible, efficient, and impactful for society.”

The university said the move is aimed at strengthening research and innovation while creating new opportunities in AI-driven healthcare and governance.
