NEW DELHI: The Consortium of National Law Universities has announced that the national level law entrance exam, Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2021 will be held on May 09, 2021, in offline mode. The application form of CLAT 2021 will be available from January 1, 2021. The last date for CLAT registration is March 31, 2021.
Eligibility for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2021
CLAT is conducted for admissions to both undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by the National Law Universities. The eligibility criteria for CLAT 2021 are given below.
CLAT UG 2021 eligibility
Candidates who have passed Class 12th or an equivalent examination with 45% marks are eligible to appear in CLAT 2021.
Candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories are given relaxation in qualifying marks. Such candidates are required to score at least 40% in the qualifying examination.
Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in March/April 2021 are also eligible for appearing in the test.
CLAT PG 2021 eligibility
The candidate applying for CLAT PG should have an LLB degree from a recognized university. Further, the candidates must have passed the qualifying examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. The SC and ST category candidates must score at least 45% or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination.
Candidates appearing in the final year of LLB graduation may also apply for CLAT PG.
CLAT goes offline again
Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the exam authorities to conduct the law admission test in online, computer-based test (CBT) mode. However, this year, CLAT will be an offline, pen, and paper-based test.
Did CLAT 2021 exam pattern and syllabus change?
The exam pattern will continue to be a comprehension based test designed to test the reading and critical thinking skills of the students.
However, there is still some uncertainty over the test structure of CLAT PG. Last year, the authorities had removed the essay section after repeated postponements due to CVOID-19 pandemic. If the test is restored to its original form, we may see the essay section again in CLAT PG along with the restoration of 40% cut off marks.
Another question in the minds of the CLAT aspirants will be about its syllabus. In the coming days, the authorities would clarify whether the reduction in the syllabus of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will impact the CLAT syllabus or not.
