NEW DELHI: Whether a candidate is able to get admission or not in the desired National Law University (NLU), will be determined by CLAT 2024 cut offs. The consortium will release the admission lists and cutoffs during the last stage of the admission process for each round of counselling. It is important for prospective candidates to clearly understand the previous cut offs trends to adjust their preparation strategy accordingly. In this article, we take a look at CLAT 2024 cut off trends and determine what a good score in CLAT is likely to be.

The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) will conduct the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2024 on December 3, for admission into integrated 5-year LLB and LLM programmes. The CLAT 2024 scores will be accepted by 23 NLUs and over 60 affiliated colleges.

Important points in CLAT 2024 cut off

It must be noted that CLAT 2024 will only have 120 questions instead of 150 in previous years. With a revised CLAT 2024 exam pattern the CLAT cut offs are expected to undergo a change in terms of marks. However, the cut off ranks are expected to be in line with previous trends.

Rajneesh Singh, Founder and chief mentor of CLAT Essentials expects the cut offs to be lower this time. He says, “CLAT will be different this year. The passages are likely to be shorter and the cutoffs will be lower.”

Given below are some important points that will be at play in determining the cut offs for CLAT 2024 -

  • In the past, the CLAT cut off for top NLUs such as NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad and WBNUJS Kolkata has hovered around 66% i.e. a score of 100-110 out of 150. In CLAT 2024, it would be extremely difficult to get a score above 100 out of 120. As a result, the cut offs are likely to decrease.

  • A percentage score of 66%-70% translates to a score of around 78-85 marks which is likely to be the cut off for top NLUs this year.

  • The opening and closing ranks for top NLUs are not expected to buck the trend given their continued preference among candidates.

  • Tier-2 and tier-3 NLUs would have lower cut offs than top NLUs. However, the difference is not stark enough among NLUs. For instance, in CLAT 2023 ,the closing rank at NLSIU Bengaluru was 107 for the general category after round 1. For GNLU Gandhinagar, the closing rank was 419.

  • The much lower-ranked and new NLUs such as DBRANLU Sonipat have offered admission to students securing 70-72 marks (46-48%) in previous exams. So, if a candidate from the general category scores 50-52% in CLAT 2024 then they still have chances of getting into NLUs. Last year, the closing rank in DBRANLU Sonipat was 1902 for general category.
