NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has excluded candidates who appeared for the State Service Preliminary Exam 2024 using outdated hall tickets. The decision has triggered protests and concerns among affected candidates, as well as political leaders calling for clarification and corrective action.
This decision has sparked concerns among affected candidates and political leaders, with the Vice President of the Mumbai Pradesh Youth Congress, Zeenat Shabrin, leading calls for clarification and corrective action.
Vice President of the Mumbai Pradesh Youth Congress, Zeenat Shabrin in a formal letter addressed to Suvarna Kharat, the Secretary of MPSC, expressed her concern over the unfair exclusion of candidates, emphasising that the error lies with the exam centres and the commission, not the candidates.
Shabrin further urged the MPSC to be transparent about the steps it intends to take to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. She also called for the affected candidates to be given an opportunity for re-evaluation and for their inclusion in the results.
The issue has sparked wider discussions about the accountability of the MPSC, with demands for actions to resolve the matter and ensure that no eligible candidate is unjustly excluded from the exam results.

The controversy comes shortly after the MPSC announced the r esults of the MPSC prelims , which were held on December 1, 2024. The MPSC prelims results were published on the MPSC website on March 12, 2025.

According to the MPSC, candidates who appeared for the preliminary exam with outdated hall tickets, which were not the valid admit cards distributed for the exam, have been excluded from the result. This has raised questions about the communication and coordination between the MPSC, exam centers, and candidates, as well as the potential impact on the careers of those affected.
The MPSC has clarified that only the qualified candidates who meet the eligibility criteria, apply for the main examination within the prescribed timeline, and pay the examination fee will be admitted to the main exam. However, it also emphasized that the candidature of candidates found to be ineligible after verification will be canceled at any stage of the recruitment process.
