NEW DELHI: A major private school in Noida school is being “sanitized” due to a coronavirus scare, confirmed the Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate, BN Singh, to Careers360 .
“A team from the district administration is at the school right now – the school is being sanitized and we are keeping a watch on the situation,” said Singh. He added that no one among the students or teachers has yet tested positive for coronavirus.
Singh also confirmed that the school in question is the Shriram Millennium School- Noida. The school administration could not be contacted and several calls made on the mobile number given on its website went unanswered.
Meanwhile, another school in Noida announced that it will be closed till March 9 as a precaution.
Italy, Agra, Noida, Delhi
The “coronavirus scare” at the school is connected to a patient who recently returned from Italy, tested positive for the virus and is at present isolated in a Delhi hospital.
Before he was hospitalized, however, he had organized a party in Agra which was attended by several children from the school. According to another source, the party was held on Friday. “The father has coronavirus and he is already in isolation in Delhi,” said Singh. “We are also in the process of isolating the remaining family and the other children who attended the party.”
The school sent parents a message early on Tuesday morning which said:
“Dear Parents, Due to certain unavoidable circumstances we will be postponing the exams scheduled today. The new dates will be communicated shortly. The Board exams will continue as normal. The children of classes 7-11 may come for extra classes if they wish. Class 6 and IGCSE classes continue with the study leave. Regards TSMS Noida.”
Shiv Nadar School, Noida, has taken a precautionary step by deciding to close the school until the 9th of March. The principal informed that this is done to "sanitise" and "completely remove all scope for the further spread of this virus".
According to the Press Information Bureau, six cases more cases with high viral load have been detected in sample testing in Agra. These are the ones who have come in contact with the coronavirus patient from New Delhi which was reported yesterday.
