NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has made a contribution of Rs 1 crore to the PM CARES Fund to support the Government of India in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.

The staff members at IIT Kharagpur have donated a day’s salary towards this fund.

To compensate for the lockdown period, the institute has already brought forward the summer vacation by more than a month and issued a revised academic calendar.

The institute has procured a large number of licenses of online platforms so that the teaching and learning continuity can be maintained in online mode.

IIT Kharagpur has also been approached by some alumni from the USA to set up a temporary fund to sustain and support the needy people around the campus for about six months.

Other institutes like Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and boards like Central Board of Secondary Education have contributed to PM-CARES Fund too.

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund)’ was set up by the Prime Minister on March 28 to deal with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
