NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued a notice in which it has mentioned the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has stated that the state governments can determine the validity period of the Teacher Eligibility Test qualifying certificate while making appointments. It has been mentioned that though the validity of the TET certificate will be for lifetime, however, the respective state government will have to notify if they are following any change.

Also the CBSE in its notice has said that the validity period of CTET qualifying certificate for all categories which was earlier seven years and had been recently notified by the government of India to be valid for lifetime. However, here again the respective state government will notify if there will be any change with regard to the validity period of the certificate while they make the appointment. CBSE has notified that they will not issue any fresh eligibility certificate nor revised marks statement for the exam that was held in the past.

NCTE extends validity of TET certificates to lifetime

It was on June 3, 2021 that the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” had tweeted wherein he spoke about extending the validity of the CTET certificate to lifetime and that the same would be applicable to the state teacher eligibility test also.

At the 50th general body meeting of the National Council of Teacher Education also issued a notice to the secretaries of states and Union Territories wherein they asked them to extend the validity of TET certificates to lifetime. The decision was to benefit all those candidates who had qualified the TET and CTET exam after 2011.

Every year the state governments conduct the TET exam for recruiting teachers to fill vacant posts in schools for classes 1 to 8th. Meanwhile, it is the CBSE which conducts the CTET exam. Post the selection of the candidates in the respective exam, document verification takes place after which the appointment letter is given to the qualified candidates.
