4,62,603 candidates took CUET PG 2024; 198 universities participated: Report

NEW DELHI: A total of 4,62,603 candidates appeared for the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate (CUET PG) 2024, highest so far, said University Grants Commission (UGC) chief M Jagadesh Kumar, as per an ANI report. The National Testing Agency conducted the CUET PG 2024 from March 11 to 28 for admission to postgraduate programmes in central, state, private, and deemed universities in the academic session 2024-25.

198 universities participated this year while 7,68,414 tests were held for different postgraduate subjects, Kumar reportedly said. Only 122 applicants were absent as 4,62,725 students registered for the PG entrance exam this year, as per info shared by UGC chief.

Jagadesh Kumar further shared that CUET PG 2024 candidates applied for 4,597 courses this year and the question papers were prepared by 950 experts and 200 translators, the report added. This year, the CUET PG exam was conducted at 565 exam centres in 253 examination cities including those within India and nine outside, Kumar added in the report. 24 exam cities were made available for candidates to choose from during the registration process.

CUET PG 2024: Shifts, pattern

The entrance exam was conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode in three different shifts – 9 am to 10:45 pm, 12:45 pm to 2:30 pm, and 4:30 pm to 6:15 pm. The exam was administered in a total of 44 shifts for a duration of 105 minutes each while 18,000 questions were used, as per report.

As per the marking scheme, CUET PG 2024 candidates will be awarded four marks for each correct answer while one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Last year, 4,58,774 candidates appeared for the exam and 197 universities participated to admit students to their PG programmes. The tests were administered in 279 cities including seven abroad.
