Delhi Budget 2018: Education gets 26% of total outlay; New School Curriculum in offing

NEW DELHI, MARCH 22: Education being one of the key focus areas of the Delhi Government has once again got its due attention in the Budget 2018-19 presented by the Government, getting 26 percent of the total outlay. This year the state government has increased the allocation for the sector by nearly 2.5 percent, in the Budget 2017-18, 23.5 percent of the total Budget was allocated for the education sector.
The Delhi Government today presented its Budget in the Assembly by earmarking major allocations for education, health and environment. Out of the total Budget allocation of Rs 53,000 Crore, the state government has allocated Rs 13,9997 Crore for the education sector.
The Government has also planned some steps to be to taken to improve the public education system as it is also planning to introduce a new curriculum in government schools.
The Kejriwal led government has announced to launch “Mission Buniyaad” to improve reading and Mathematics skills of students between classes 1 to 8 in months of April, May and June.
With safety of girl students emerging as a major concern area the state has allocated Rs 175 crore for installation of CCTV cameras in school buildings. A total of 1.2 lakh cameras will be installed. The government has allocated Rs 10 crore for self-defence training of girl students in Delhi.
It has also allocated Rs 20 crore for promotion of sports in schools and Rs 315 crore for setting up a world-class skill centre in the national capital to train the youth in getting jobs.
Leveraging the use of technology for education and better management, the Budget has announced to provide tabs to all teachers in government schools to help them keep online record of students.
For improving the infrastructure of state government schools the Budget plans for 12,748 additional rooms, 30 new school buildings and nursery classes in 366 Sarvodaya schools.
