Delhi government to employ 9,000 guest teachers for schools

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 29: In a situation where Delhi government schools are facing shortage of teachers, state education minister, Manish Sisodia has announced recruitment of 9,000 guest teachers to overcome the challenge.

Sisodia, in the meeting with city’s education department, stated that the new guest teachers will join the schools by August 14 and ensure that all schools have teachers as per their requirement.

Sisodia, along with PWD minister Satyendar Jain, also reviewed the infrastructure work in Delhi government schools. According to the PWD officials, three new schools will be ready by September and handed over to the Directorate of Education. He also directed senior officials of DoE to prioritize work towards Grievance of Teachers, which will be a major relief to Delhi Government School teachers.

Earlier in July, the cabinet had sanctioned construction of a total 12,748 rooms in Delhi government schools, including 9,981 classrooms, 106 multipurpose halls and 328 laboratories.

According to DoE, there are a total of 1023 government schools in Delhi. Till June, of the sanctioned strength of 66,736 teachers in Delhi government schools, only 38,926, or 58.3%, were filled. Of these, 21,926 were regular and 17,000 were guest teachers.
