Delhi Govt releases assessment criteria for Class 10 students

NEW DELHI: Students in Class 10 in Delhi Government schools will be assessed and promoted on the basis of their performance in the pre-board exams. Those who could not appear for one or more students will be assessed “telephonically” as per the “objective criteria” devised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The Delhi Government, on Wednesday, released the assessment criteria for Class 10 students under government and government-aided schools in Delhi. These are affiliated to the CBSE. The CBSE Class 10 exams were cancelled due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the board announced an alternative evaluation plan on May 1 on which the Delhi government’s directions are based.

Students will be assessed for year-end exams, which typically carry 80 marks, based on the pre-board examinations conducted from March to April 2021. The internal exams, which are of 20 marks, had already taken place.

CBSE 2021: Class 10 assessment criteria

The Delhi directorate of education (DoE) said that the assessment for mathematics pre-board exams, which could not take place, will be taken according to the CBSE guidelines. The CBSE said that due to cancellation, students can be assessed based on the internal tests conducted by the school over the year.

The directorate of education also said: “The result committee constituted by the school as per CBSE notification will moderate the assessment of 80 marks subject wise based on the marks broad sheet provided by the department.”

The directorate also said that students who have not appeared in one or more subjects of the pre-board examinations will be assessed “telephonically as per guidelines of the CBSE”.

The last date for uploading internal assessment marks and year-end exams marks have been extended to June 20.

Delhi Govt: ‘Rationale for the criteria’

“The rationale for the criteria should be well thought out, objective and should be documented in the form of Rationale Document as prescribed by CBSE, explaining in detail how the school assessed marks have been determined out of 80 in various cases,” said the Delhi Government circular.

The CBSE had recommended that each school set up a result committee with seven teachers, including two from neighbouring schools, and the school principal as the head.
