Delhi schools to remain closed on September 11 for BRICS Summit

Schools in Delhi will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026, due to the upcoming BRICS Business Forum and 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit being held in the national capital, according to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.

The holiday will apply to all offices and schools under the Directorate of Education, including government, government-aided and unaided recognised private schools.

As per the Department of Personnel & Training notice, the decision to close the office was taken considering the magnitude of the international event and the substantial logistical arrangements involved. The move aims to minimise disruption and inconvenience to the general public during the summit.

Since September 12 and 13 fall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, schools will remain closed for the weekend following the September 11 holiday.

The General Administration Department (GAD) of the Delhi government issued the notification on September 3, citing the large-scale arrangements and security requirements for the BRICS Summit. The event is scheduled to be held from September 11 to 13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit will bring together leaders from around 30 BRICS member and partner countries, along with heads of international organisations and business representatives from BRICS nations, including India.

The Directorate of Education has directed all concerned offices and schools to observe the holiday on September 11. The circular was issued with the approval of the Director (Education).
