NEW DELHI: Union education minster, Dharmendra Pradhan and minster for electronics and information technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw tested the 'BharOS', a mobile operating system developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM).
An IITM-incubated firm, JandK Operations private limited, developed the Atmanirbhar mobile operating system for security and privacy of user. The service is currently used by organisations with stringent privacy and security requirement whose users handle sensitive information that requires confidential communications on restricted apps on mobiles.
According to a recent IITM press statement, the BharOS service provides access to apps from organisation-specific private app store services (PASS). This PASS gives a user access to a curated list of apps that meet security and privacy standards of the organisation.
The operating system allows user to have more control over permissions the permissions that apps have on their device, giving them an option to choose apps that they trust to access certain features or data on their device.
