DoE Delhi urges schools to implement preventive measures to tackle vector-borne diseases

The Directorate of Education (DoE) Delhi has directed all government and private schools to implement measures to prevent vector-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and malaria. This also includes weekly monitoring of students through ‘Dengue Homework Cards’ and encouraging them to wear full-sleeve uniforms.

According to a circular issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the schools were asked to step up preventive measures during the vector transmission season from August to November.

Under the new directives, schools have been asked to distribute "Dengue Homework Cards" among students and ensure that teachers regularly monitor their use. Students will be required to fill in all rows and columns on the cards each week.

The card-making activity encourages students to actively participate in identifying and preventing mosquito breeding, the DoE said.

Wear full sleeves to minimize exposure: DoE

Additionally, the schools have also been directed to encourage students to wear full-sleeve clothes or uniforms during the vector transmission season to minimise their exposure to mosquito bites, the circular said.

The directorate said that the guidelines outlined in its earlier May and July circulars on preventing and controlling vector-borne diseases must continue to be strictly followed.

All heads of government, government-aided, and private unaided recognised schools have been directed to ensure compliance with the measures and spread awareness among students about the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and malaria.

The Delhi directorate has also asked district and zonal deputy directors of education to monitor compliance and submit compiled reports to the school health branch by September 15.

Also, DoE, the government of NCT of Delhi, all government, government-aided, and unaided recognised private schools will remain closed tomorrow due to the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit . With inputs from PTI
