NEW DELHI, APRIL 10: The DST Centre for Policy Research (DST-CPR) at Indian Institute of Science has invited applications to undertake a two-month internship with the center’s research team. Interns will complete a policy-focused project in an area of mutual interest relating to the center’s work, and will contribute to the day-to-day activities of the policy research team.

This Internship will suit students in policy studies or early-career researchers who are interested in public policy career paths.

The successful applicants will complete an internship with the research team at the Centre in IISc Bangalore for a period of 2 months (extendable by another month) during May-July 2017. During the internship, the successful applicant will gain exposure to range of science policy and public policy issues, as well as completing a policy-focused project on a subject of mutual interest.

Skills and experience

Candidates must be Masters-level students in social sciences, management, statistics, data sciences, S&T studies, and international relations; students with at least two years in a Bachelors program in the above-mentioned fields are also eligible to apply. Candidates should have working knowledge of research techniques in social sciences (including conducting literature reviews, carrying out surveys and interviews), and / or analysis of statistical data. Experience in managing large datasets and databases of qualitative and quantitative information and / or working knowledge of web technologies (HTML, Javascript) would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

- A high standard of written communication;

- A genuine interest in scientific and public policy;

- A fair understanding of India’s scientific landscape.


The interns will be based at the DST-CPR in IISc Bangalore for the duration of the internship. The internship is expected to be full-time for 60 days during the academic summer session in 2018 (extension for another 30 days may also be considered). A stipend of Rs. 8,000 per month (for Masters students), and Rs. 6,000 per month (for Bachelors students).

A short piece of writing (less than 600 words) in the style of an op-ed, discussing an issue of your choice related to science policy, or an issue of public policy with a scientific element.
