G20 Summit: Dharmendra Pradhan holds meeting on preparation for India's presidency in G20 Summit 2023
India’s G20 presidency is an opportunity to present India’s template for education which can be a global model for all emerging economies.

NEW DELHI: Union education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level meeting on the preparation for the next G20 Summit in 2023 that will be held in India. Education sector is a priority said Pradhan.
The education minister called for extensive preparation for the 18th G20 Summit and emphasised how India's presidency is also an opportunity to share what India has achieved in the education sector after the launch of National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
The minister said that the preparations will involve students, educational and skilling institutions to make the summit a success. India will showcase the heritage of the Indian knowledge systems and make the leaders aware of the country's contribution to the world. While addressing the meeting Dharmendra Pradhan said: "India will present a new template of education which can be a global model for all emerging economies."
India will be assuming presidency of the G20 summit from December 1, 2022 and there will be several events held across the country. The four priorities under education according to the education minster are-
- Ensuring foundational literacy and numeracy especially in context of blended learning.
- Building capacities to promote lifelong learning in context of future of work.
- Making tech-enabled learning more inclusive, qualitative and collaborative at every level.
- Strengthen research, promote innovation through richer collaborations.
Minister of state (MoS) for skill development and ministry of electronics and information technology (MEITY), Rajeev Chandrasekhar; MoS for education, Annapurna Devi, MoS Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and other senior officials of the education and skill development ministry attended in the meeting.
On June 28, 2023, the education working group will be holding a series of seminars in the role of digital technology in education and technical and vocational training and future of work. The group will also be working on the G20 EdWG report, collection of the best educational practices and a report on two seminars themes leading to G20 Education Ministers’ declaration 2023.
Educational institutions like National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Indian Institute of Science (IISC), National Skill Development Corporation (NDSC), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, IIT Hyderabad, ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) are the summit's knowledge partners under various priority areas.
