New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, will conduct the GATE 2021 exam in online mode on February 6, 7, 13, and 14, 2021. It is very important for candidates to know the guidelines to be followed on the day of the GATE 2021 exam. The exam authorities have provided a detailed plan of dos and don’ts on the exam day which the candidates must follow.

As per the GATE 2021 exam pattern, there will be multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-select questions (MSQs), and/or numerical answer type (NAT) in the exam. Also, the GATE 2021 marking schemes for different question papers will differ from each other. The General Aptitude Subject is common in all the GATE 2021 question papers.

Do’s for GATE exam day

  • Reach the GATE 2021 exam centre at least 30 minutes before the reporting time mentioned in the admit card. Thereafter, they will not be permitted to enter the exam hall.

  • After entering into the exam centre, check the seating arrangements to know where you may be seated.

  • Candidates should carry a admit card and valid photo ID proof to the exam centre.

  • Go through the details carefully specified on GATE 2021 admit card and adhere to them.

  • Do follow the COVID-19 guidelines as prescribed by the authorities strictly inside the exam centres.

  • Carefully read each question before attempting it.

  • Execute the strategy, which you have planned for the exam.

Don’ts for GATE exam day

  • Don’t carry any electronic gadgets to the exam centre.

  • Do not take any prohibited and expensive items.

  • While attempting the exam, do not panic and keep track of time.

  • Don’t waste a lot of time on any problem. Time is of the essence so attempt wisely and well.

  • There is negative marking in the exam. So, avoid answering questions you don’t know the answers to so you don’t lose precious marks on a fluke.

GATE 2021: COVID-19 Guidelines

New COVID-19 safety measures are implemented on the exam day at each exam centre which are classified into three main categories - Pre, During & Post.

Pre-exam preventive measures for COVID-19

  • Avoid crowding at the exam centre

  • Maintain social distancing

  • Follow the rope queues and floor marks while standing in a queue outside the gate

  • Body temperature is checked using thermo guns at the entry gate. Candidates with body temperature more than 99.4-degrees Fahrenheit will have to take the test from an isolation room.

  • Admit card and valid original ID proof is verified by the invigilator from a safe distance.

  • Items allowed inside the exam hall - mask, gloves, hand sanitizer, a pen or pencil, transparent water bottles, ID proof and admit card.

During Exam - Preventive measures for COVID-19

  • A staff member will approach and ask to sign on the roll list and compare the signature with the original ID.

  • The candidate ID proof number will be matched with the ID proof details provided by the candidate while applying for the exam.

Post-exam - Preventive measures for COVID-19

  • After the conclusion of a shift, candidates will be allowed to move out in an orderly manner.

  • Candidates can leave the exam hall only after the staff member permits you to leave.

  • Don’t leave any of the assets in the exam hall which includes hand sanitizer bottles, face mask, pen or pencil etc.

  • Drop the admit card and scribble pad in the drop box at the exit.
