The GATE 2026 XE 1 energy science paper covers energy resources and conversion technologies, including fossil fuels, nuclear energy, solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, biomass, wind, and hydropower. It also includes energy storage, economics, environment, and efficiency, focusing on batteries, thermal storage, economic analysis, environmental impacts, and energy management practices such as auditing, demand-side management, and efficiency improvements in electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems.

The GATE 2026 exam will include a new Energy Science section under the Engineering Science paper. The GATE 2026 exam is scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The GATE 2026 mock test is available on the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Candidates can access and attempt the mock test online without the need for any login credentials.

Originally scheduled for January 2, 2026, the admit card’s release date has been deferred, and a revised schedule has not yet been announced on the official GATE website. While IIT Guwahati has confirmed the postponement, no specific reason has been provided. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official portal for updates.

For the GATE exam, candidates must carry their GATE admit card along with a valid original photo ID such as Aadhaar, passport, PAN card, voter ID or driving licence, showing their name and date of birth. A passport-size photograph may also be required.

Generally, candidates cannot change their exam centre after the GATE admit card is issued, as the hall ticket confirms the final allotted venue.

The GATE syllabus for CSE 2026 includes 10 core subjects—Engineering Mathematics, Digital Logic, Computer Organisation and Architecture, Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating Systems, Databases and Computer Networks—along with General Aptitude, with detailed topics under each section.

The GATE 2026 exam is for a total of 100 marks, with questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each. Negative marking applies only to MCQs: 1/3 mark is deducted for a wrong 1-mark MCQ and 2/3 mark for a wrong 2-mark MCQ. There is no negative marking for MSQs and NAT questions.
