Try NowThe Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has released the sample paper for the new energy science sectional paper and previous years’ question papers for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. Candidates can check and download the GATE 2026 previous year question papers and GATE 2026 sample papers to get an idea of the questions on the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
For GATE exam 2026, IIT G introduced the new sectional paper under the engineering sciences (XE) subject. Candidates will get to choose from eight optional papers now. GATE 2026 will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 for postgraduate admissions and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) recruitment. The exam will contain 30 test papers.
As per the GATE 2026 XE-I sample paper, the section will comprise a total of 22 questions. While nine questions will carry one mark each, 13 questions will be given a weightage of two marks each.
GATE 2026 XE exam pattern assigns 70 marks to the two optional papers and 15 marks to the mandatory engineering mathematics paper.
GATE 2026 PYQ
MTech and MArch aspirants have the option to download the GATE previous year question papers in bulk from 2007 to 2025 or year-wise PYQs from 2021 to 2025. The GATE question papers are available for all the subjects along with the answer keys.
GATE 2026 registration, syllabus
GATE 2026 syllabus link is active now for all subjects. Students can download the subject-wise GATE syllabus 2026 from the official website only.
IIT Guwahati will commence the GATE 2026 registrations from August 25 on the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) 2026 portal. The last date for submission of GATE application form 2026 is September 25.
